Since we last left you, we have done some pretty awesome stuff. First, we drove through the Nevada Desert. It was a really weird day, even the lady at the gas station commented how it was unusual (although the town was pretty freakin’ weird, so who knows what she considers unusual). The desert seemed blue and purple, as apposed to brown and grey.
We decided to drive through Death Valley and it was almost dusk by the time we got there. Eddie was very impressed because he got to drive in neutral for 14 miles In a matter of 12 miles, we dropped around 5000 ft to below sea level). Lisa was very impressed because it was beautiful and unlike anything they’d seen up to that point. It was also amazing because it was 110 F at 9 at night.
After the initial drop, we went up to 4000 ft, then down to almost to sea level again and then back up to 4000 ft. Then we had a very very long dark and windy road into Lone Pine, CA.
We stayed the night at the Budget Inn (which surprisingly wasn’t really budgetish at all, as it was pretty nice). The next morning, we got up and looked outside and realized that we were in perhaps one of the most beautiful places we’d seen yet. We were right beside Mount Whitney, which is the tallest point in CA (over 14,000 ft). We decided to stay in Lone Pine for the day and try to find a place to camp.
We drove up Mount Whitney and found a kickass campsite. It was just over 8000 ft up Mt. Whitney, had amazing views of the valley and the mountain and allowed us to have a campfire (which was great because of all the fires in the west, not many places were allowing fires).
We decided to go for a hike up Mt. Whitney to Lone Pine Lake. Even though Eddie and I thought we were in shape, we quickly found out that sitting in a car for nearly a week and a half does not help with ones’ ability to do physical exercise. The climb was about 6 miles and over 1500 vertical feet. But it was totally worth it, because Lone Pine Lake was the most amazing place we’d seen yet.
Following our hike, we ate some hot dogs (Lisa had 2, Eddie had 6), drank some water (aka Bud Light) and sat around the fire. The stars were totally amazing.
So now we are about an hour outside of Berkeley (our soon to be new home).
Today we also got to see some amazing sites. We drove through the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite Park and a very windy mountain side that Eddie absolutely loved driving down.
We have a lot of great pictures and will be giving you the link for them tonight, when we are relaxing in our temporary home.
Tomorrow, we plan to do a lot of walking and do not plan to drive anywhere any time soon.
Love TeamEddieLisa.
